My top tips to feel calm ?

Everyone is having to deal with so much uncertainty and worry right now. I would like to share with you with some top tips on how to feel calm and manage our lives.

Joe Wicks’ maybe the world’s PE teacher ??‍♀️ and not just for the younger ones! I hear many parents are taking part too! But please be careful, adapt it for your ability, if you are a 40/50 year old that hasn’t done much exercise in your life then think again before trying to keep up with your teenagers! The internet is awash with workouts for all abilities and ages, so choose something appropriate for your fitness level.

New habits are much easier to form if they are attached to something you already do routinely. So whilst you’re waiting for that kettle to boil try marching/gentle jogging on the spot or maybe a few squats/lunges up and down the kitchen or get a couple of tins out of the cupboard and do some bicep curls ?

Don’t wait until you have a whole pile of stuff at the bottom of the stairs to take up, apart from the fact its dangerous, make it a part of your routine to run up the stairs at least half a dozen times a day! Our bodies were designed to move not sit on a piece of furniture looking at another piece of furniture!

The Government allows us one form of outside exercise per day, so take advantage of what you can do, take a walk and at the same time think about the positive things in your life, its a time when you can be more mindful about things, including feeling grateful for the sunshine ☀️ we have at the moment.

It is also vital that we keep our mental health intact especially with the added concern of our personal finances decreasing beyond our control ?

Have a think back prior to the pandemic of the less positive things in your life, and think how you could change them. Think of the things you could do differently and how you can implement more positivity into your life now while having extra time on your hands ?

➡️ Human contact – Pick up the phone and call family & friends. Better still use FaceTime, Zoom or House Party to see the people you care about the most. Being disconnected from the outside world can cause loneliness. Share how you are feeling with your loved ones as they are probably feeling the same ❤️

➡️ Relaxation – Try out some form of gentle exercise like yoga, pilates or Tai Chi and learn to breathe again.

Look out for my video on different breathing Techniques. These help with our autonomic nervous system where we can teach ourselves to calm down within a few breaths and learn to self soothe just like we did when we were babies/young children.

➡️ Brain activity ? – Is there something you are interested in and always wanted to know more? Use your time to exercise your brain to perhaps learn a new skill and to help take your mind off the reality, just for a short while.

There are so many online free courses and you will feel such a great feeling of self achievement if you complete a short course ?
